Munyori privacy policy
Last updated 27 October 2026
Munyori is a voice notebook app for Android made by AfricaYamuka Ltd (“we”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. In short: your notes stay on your phone, encrypted, and you can keep your recordings entirely on your phone if you prefer.
Your notes stay on your phone
Notes, tasks, events, goals, people and everything else you create are stored on your phone in an encrypted database. The key is kept in your phone’s secure storage. You can also lock the app with a password or your fingerprint.
Transcription: you choose where
At your first recording, Munyori asks where recordings should be transcribed. You can change this at any time in Settings → Works offline.
- On the AfricaYamuka servers, for more accurate text. Each recording is encrypted on your phone so that only the AfricaYamuka servers can open it, sent to them, transcribed there automatically, and then deleted, generally within about an hour of transcription. Nobody listens to recordings, and they are never shared or sold. The text is encrypted so that only your phone can read it, and the servers delete it as soon as your phone has received it (or after 7 days if your phone never collects it). Transcription runs on the AfricaYamuka servers; recordings are not sent to any other company.
- Only on this phone. Recordings never leave your phone. A transcription model on the phone writes the text.
Whichever you choose, the recording on your phone is deleted when you approve its text, unless you choose to keep it.
Backups
Munyori can back up your notes to the AfricaYamuka servers. You are asked before backups start, and you can turn them off in Settings. Each backup is encrypted on your phone with a key made from a passphrase only you know, so the servers, and we, cannot read it. The servers keep your ten most recent backups. Turning backups off stops new ones; to have existing backups deleted, write to us at the address below. If you lose your passphrase, backups cannot be recovered.
Calendars (optional)
If you connect a Google or Microsoft account, Munyori asks for read-only access to your calendars. It uses this access only to look for upcoming events and ask whether you want to add each one to your notes. Event details go directly from Google or Microsoft to your phone; they do not pass through the AfricaYamuka servers and are never shared. Munyori cannot change, add or delete calendar events. The sign-in is stored in your phone’s secure storage, and you can remove an account at any time in Settings → Calendars; you can also remove Munyori’s access in your Google or Microsoft account settings. If you add a private calendar link instead, your phone reads it directly.
Munyori’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use calendar data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not use it to train any AI model.
Contacts and other permissions
- Microphone: to record notes and voice commands. Voice commands are understood on the phone.
- Contacts: only if you use the People feature, and only the contacts you pick. They are copied into your encrypted notes on the phone, not uploaded.
- Notifications: reminders and alerts are created on the phone.
- Fingerprint: to unlock the app, if you turn this on. Your fingerprint never leaves the phone’s secure hardware.
The voice assistant and its language model run entirely on the phone.
What the AfricaYamuka servers keep
- Your account: a name for it, your phone’s name, and the keys used to recognise your phone and encrypt text for it.
- For each transcription, a record without its content (when it was sent, its size and length, and whether it succeeded), kept for 30 days and used to apply fair-use limits.
- Your encrypted backups, as described above.
- Standard web-server logs (the IP address and time of each request), kept for about two weeks to keep the service secure and working.
Traffic to our servers passes through Cloudflare, which protects them from attacks. Recordings and text are encrypted inside that connection, so Cloudflare cannot read them.
AI training
We do not use your recordings, notes or calendar data to train AI models.
Deleting your information
You can delete notes and recordings in the app at any time. Uninstalling Munyori deletes everything stored on the phone. To close your account and have everything on the servers deleted, write to us at the address below; we will do it within 30 days.
Children
Munyori is not intended for children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
